Andy, at the ACLU, we have a saying: We don't get ready, we stay ready. It's been that way for over 105 years, through 19 different American presidents. As the nation's largest public interest law firm, we are unwavering in our commitment to protecting the guarantees of our Constitution and defending the rights of people nationwide from any and all attacks. But in all that time, we've quite frankly never seen a moment like this one. There is simply no precedent for a president who swears an oath to uphold the Constitution and then undermines it at every turn. So our response must be just as unprecedented – and so far, it has been. We've taken over 344 legal actions, helped mobilize millions to take to the streets, and sent hundreds of thousands of messages to Congress. As you can imagine, these efforts require a lot of resources, which means we need your continued support more than ever. That's why we have to ask: Will you please rush your first donation today to defend civil liberties? Because of supporters like you, the ACLU was ready for President Trump's attacks on civil liberties from day one. We filed our lawsuit against President Trump's attack on birthright citizenship within two hours after he signed the executive order, on the first day he took office, and we've fought with that same urgency every day since. After a year and a half and a lot of hard work, we argued in defense of the 14th Amendment before the Supreme Court and won – striking down President Trump's unconstitutional executive order to end birthright citizenship last month. But for every case like this one that makes front page news, there are dozens more our teams are litigating behind the scenes. Thank you for helping us fight fiercely to defend immigrants' rights, LGBTQ equality, free speech, voting rights, and more. The ACLU Team |
