Hi Andy,
For years, quantum computing has felt like a distant concern; something for researchers, not real-world users. That is changing.
The question is no longer whether the transition to post-quantum security will happen. It's whether organizations will be ready when it does.
Algorand began preparing in 2022 by introducing State Proofs signed with Falcon, a lattice-based signature scheme. In addition, Algorand has deployed Falcon accounts on Mainnet through LogicSignatures. Even with these early moves toward quantum resilience, there remain other critical components to be addressed, namely:
- Native post-quantum accounts
- Network-level support for multiple concurrent signature schemes
- Quantum-resistant consensus
- Quantum-resistant Verifiable Random Function (VRF)
- Tooling to make post-quantum accounts usable for wallets, SDKs, AlgoKit, hardware wallets, custodians, exchanges, dApps, and end users.
Today, we are announcing our roadmap to target broad quantum resilience by the end of 2027, with the first milestones beginning in Q3 2026.
This roadmap reflects a belief that security should be designed for the future. With the first milestones launching in 2026 and broad deployment targeted for the end of 2027, Algorand is taking concrete steps toward a future where users, developers, and institutions can build with confidence, today and in the decades ahead.
