This was the most powerful earthquake to hit the Philippines in 50 years. Early reports are that more than 30 people have been killed, over 200 injured and thousands more are displaced. The shaking collapsed buildings, disrupted the first day of school for millions of children and prompted tsunami alerts throughout the region.
Americares Philippines response teams are already en route to the impact zone. They are prepared to distribute relief supplies, including hygiene kits and water containers.
We have been providing assistance to the Philippines – one of the most disaster-prone countries – for over 20 years. We established a base of operations in Manila after Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 – all so we could more quickly respond to disasters like this one and strengthen access to lifesaving health care for families needing support. Just last year, we responded to a catastrophic typhoon that struck the Philippines at the equivalent of a category 5 hurricane, delivering lifesaving relief when it was needed most.
As we work to respond to this emergency, we urgently need your support. Your donation can be MATCHED 2X when you give today, but this rare opportunity won’t last long.
Rush your emergency donation right now to double your impact toward our response in the Philippines and to other crises around the world. |
