Hunger Matters fall newsletter

Dear Friend,

I’m glad to share your fall Hunger Matters newsletter with you. You’ll find updates on current needs in our community, a Stop Summer Hunger wrap-up, and some thoughts on how we can show up together as hunger rises in North Carolina. It’s a reminder that our community truly can make a difference.

Of course, one way to show up for the 1 in 7 people facing hunger is to make a gift to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Because every $1 is enough for 5 meals, a gift of any size goes a long way. You’ll also support our efforts to address the root causes of hunger as we work toward a future where no one goes hungry.

Amy Beros

Thank you for your friendship,

Amy Beros
President and CEO

Make a Difference During Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month, an important time for our community to come together as donors, volunteers, and advocates pursuing a more just, equitable food distribution system.

The First Place Many Families Will Turn

Federal funding cutbacks will have a serious impact on hundreds of thousands of our neighbors. But as a community, we can show up in many ways for the people who are counting on us.

The U.S. Farm Bill is Our Best Chance to Turn the Tide on Hunger

US Farm

A strong U.S. Farm Bill offers hope for local growers and food producers, which means more healthy foods on the table for our neighbors and strength for North Carolina’s economy, especially in rural areas. It only takes 2 minutes to tell lawmakers you support a strong U.S. Farm Bill!

Most days, you can find Kathy Lewis volunteering at our Raleigh Headquarters. Hear what keeps her motivated and why she encourages others to get involved.

Stop Summer Hunger

Community Rallies to Stop Summer Hunger

Summer can be a hungry time for kids when school meals aren’t available. Find out how our community came together in June and July to help local families!

Craig Campbell

Honoring Craig Campbell’s Legacy

Craig was a dedicated member of our Food Bank family for more than two decades. Please join us in honoring his legacy of caring, humor, and generosity.

Volunteers are the Core of Our Work

Volunteers

Our locations in Durham, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh, Southern Pines, and Wilmington serve as the central hubs for hundreds of local food assistance sites. Combined, we source and distribute over 100 million pounds of food to pantries, no-cost markets, and meal sites each year — and much of that work is led by our incredible volunteer corps.

In the average shift, a single volunteer will sort and pack enough food to fuel more than 160 meals for local families. Multiplied across 170,000 volunteer hours each year, it’s the equivalent of 81 full-time workers! Join the many supporters each year who devote their time and effort to make a difference in our communities.
