The Tongass has been protected for decades in substantial part by the 2001 Roadless Rule, which bans all forms of development and construction in areas of our public lands that are roadless, intact, and largely untouched. Trump has given instructions to start the rollback on environmental protections which will pave the way for massive logging.
Destruction of the Tongass National Forest is a slap in the face to Native Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples who are fighting to protect their ancestral homeland and this area with deep cultural and spiritual significance. It also will be at the cost of rare wildlife – such as Archipelago wolves, Sitka black-tailed deer, Northern Goshawks, and Grizzly Bears. We can win this fight but we need your voice to do it. Here's why: Even if the government moves forward with this corrupt plan, your comments can be used in court to support future lawsuits against this destructive scheme. It all adds up and allows our movement to hold the line against Trump's extinction plan.
Tell the U.S. Forest Service to say NO to this corporate giveaway allowing logging and mining in this climate-critical ecosystem. The Tongass forest and the health of its wildlife depend on your voice.
Greenpeacers like you have been working tirelessly to protect this forest for over 25
years. You have helped ensure it is still the largest intact National Forest. We will not give up now.
Our planet cannot afford profit-driven policies that devastate forests and other ecosystems that help suck global warming pollution out of the atmosphere. Trump’s attack on the Tongass will do just that. But with enough people power, we can change the course of the current administration’s corrupt plan. We have defended the Tongass time and time again and the forest needs your help right now.
This administration needs to know you won't stand for this corporate giveaway. You have until September 19th to add your name to our public comment and speak up against the Tongass’ destruction.
