For decades, overfishing was a textbook tragedy with bare nets, quiet docks and dire projections of global fish stocks being depleted by 2050.
But thanks to the support of EDF members, we’ve made tremendous progress to stop overfishing and provide hope for ocean recovery. Using science, economics and law, EDF works alongside fishers and other partners to advance innovative solutions and deliver results for sustainable fisheries.
With supporters like you, we can return our ocean to abundance. Will you donate to EDF to help empower responsible fishers around the world and build a positive future for our ocean and coastal communities?
As part of EDF's Spring Membership Drive, the Robert W. Wilson Charitable Trust will match your renewed gift 100%, doubling your impact!

Thanks to the support of our members, EDF collaborated with fishers and other partners to transform the Gulf of California’s hake fishery into a model for sustainable fishing and ocean conservation.
Once struggling due to overfishing, the Gulf of California’s hake fishery now keeps harvests below 10% of the fish population, allowing the species to reproduce and rebuild.
And the fishery supports over 1,800 jobs, showing how a healthier ocean can sustain both marine life and the livelihoods of coastal communities.
But none of this progress is possible without members like you. Your gift can go to work immediately as we align economic and conservation incentives, so fishers and communities see how their sustainable actions result in shared prosperity and a thriving ocean.
Please donate to make twice the difference for marine life, coastal communities and our climate.
Thanks for helping turn the tide for our ocean,
Anne Russell Gregory
