The Global Ocean Treaty will FINALLY enter into force now that we have reached 60 countries signing it into law.[1] This comes after years of campaigning from activists, environmentalists, scientists, and people like you.
Thank you for being one of the million supporters across the world who called for stronger ocean protection and helped deliver this historic win. Here’s a little gift from all of us in the Greenpeace global network as a token of how much we value your action.

As you know, Andy, the Global Ocean Treaty is a powerful tool that governments can use to create a network of ocean sanctuaries — areas off-limits to destructive human activities that have devastated marine ecosystems for decades. Scientists agree: if we protect at least 30% of the world’s ocean by 2030, ocean life can bounce back.[2]
There’s still a long road ahead, but with our strong movement, we can keep up the momentum and push governments to collaborate on strong, science-based proposals for global ocean sanctuaries.
In a world often divided, this is a real chance to build a model for meaningful ocean protection, one that’s inclusive, rooted in science, and centered on Indigenous Peoples and local communities.
This will also send a clear message to the corporations that want to plunder the ocean for profit — and to the politicians who enable them — that a fairer world, where the ocean is protected and life is valued, is possible. Hit the share button, so your friends and family can join the celebrations.

People power got us this far, and it’s what will take us the rest of the way. Thanks to your collective actions, ocean sanctuaries in the High Seas can become a reality. Real change often feels out of reach, but this is proof that it is possible when people unite behind a common goal.
When we raise our voices together, we can cut through the noise and help shape a brighter future for the ocean.
