We first introduced merino wool knitwear in 2016. In 2019 we managed to trace our wool all the way to the farm. In 2020, we started sourcing through NATIVA™ to certify our wool from sheep to yarn. Last year, we took the most meaningful stride in our merino wool journey yet.
We committed to NATIVA™ Regen, a four-year program supporting Uruguayan merino wool farmers in their transition to—or already ongoing—regenerative farming practices. Merino wool is sought after for its inherent qualities. It is renewable, biodegradable, breathable and requires minimal care. But its popularity has seen merino wool farming take on industrial scale—taking a toll on people and planet.
The purpose of regenerative farming, and the NATIVA™ Regen program, is to restore the natural balance. To heal soils, restore ecosystems, improve animal welfare, sequester carbon, and strengthen rural livelihoods.
This fall, after a year's wait, all our merino knits - sweaters, accessories and socks - are made from wool sourced from nine handpicked Uruguayan farms that are part of the program.
