Theodore “Fodor” Glava, a Transylvanian immigrant, was buried in this Colorado cemetery after passing away during the 1918 flu epidemic. Though little is known about Glava’s life, the mention of Transylvania on his gravestone elicited fears about the region’s folkloric villains, Vlad the Impaler and Count Dracula. Rumors soon floated that Glava himself was a vampire. Whether Glava was, in fact, a monster or (more likely) an innocent man caught up in wild superstition is unanswerable. However, residents of Lafayette still claim to sometimes see a mysterious figure walking around this graveyard late at night.
