IN TOUCH FOR TURIN

After riding out a tough mid-year stretch, Lorenzo Musetti remains on track for a Nitto ATP Finals debut on home soil.

With less than two months to go until the prestigious season finale, the 23-year-old Italian is eighth in the 2025 PIF ATP Live Race To Turin. The fact that he still occupies a qualification spot despite a recent lapse in confidence is a testament to his consistency across the first five months of the year.

Now, having responded to losing five out of six matches across June, July and August by reaching the quarter-finals at the US Open, Musetti headlines the field at the Chengdu Open as the ATP Tour’s 2025 Asian swing gets underway. It is a chance for Musetti to build on the hard-court form he showed in New York and take another step closer to joining his countryman Jannik Sinner in qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals.

“It's the dream, the dream,” Musetti’s coach Simone Tartarini told ATPTour.com earlier this month. “Two Italian players in the [Nitto ATP Finals]. Never, never, never, [it would be the] first time… Lorenzo dreams to play Torino.”

Another man hoping to compete at Turin's Inalpi Arena from 9-16 November is Andrey Rublev, who will also headline an ATP 250 field this week in China at the Lynk & Co Hangzhou Open. Meanwhile, World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz is among four Top 10 stars who will feature at the eighth edition of the Laver Cup. Alcaraz's Team Europe is bidding to overcome Team World and retain the trophy it won in Berlin a year ago.

The 2025 Asian swing begins in Chengdu and Hangzhou from 17-23 September, while the eighth edition of the Laver Cup takes place in San Francisco from 19-21 September.

Spain Back From The Brink As 2025 Davis Cup Final 8 Lineup Completed

A remarkable victory for Spain against Denmark headlined the drama in the second round of Davis Cup qualifiers. Pedro Martinez saved a match point before upsetting Holger Rune to keep the Marbella tie alive, before Pablo Carreno Busta defeated Elmer Moeller to cap a 3-2 win and send six-time champion Spain back to the Final 8.

Elsewhere, a Raphael Collignon-inspired Belgium shocked Australia 3-2 in Sydney, while Czechia also pulled off an impressive away win by downing the USA 3-2 in Delray Beach.The other winners from the home-and-away ties were Argentina, Austria, France and Germany. They all join defending champion Italy in the Final 8, to be held in Bologna from 18-23 November.

Rublev Seeks Turin Boost In China: Andrey Rublev faces a tough task if he is to compete for a sixth consecutive year at the Nitto ATP Finals. The 27-year-old is 11th in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin and 660 points shy of Lorenzo Musetti in the final qualification spot. He will aim to back up a solid North American hard-court summer, in which he won nine matches, with a deep run at the Lynk & Co Hangzhou Open.
