Help support Texas pets like Happy the dog

Dear Friend,

Happy, as you can clearly see in his photo, is well named. Even though he was diagnosed with heartworms at a Texas shelter, he's still such a joyful boy. But when devastating floods struck Texas, Happy's future was uncertain. The shelter caring for him suddenly had to make room for flood-displaced pets, and Happy needed a safe place to go where he could meet potential adopters. Thanks to Best Friends supporters like you, that’s exactly what Happy got.

Happy was flown by Wings of Rescue to the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in Salt Lake City, where he'll have a much better chance of being adopted by the loving family he deserves. And Happy wasn't the only one. He was joined by 87 other adoptable pets who were also in Texas shelters before the flooding.

If any funds are donated beyond the amount Best Friends spends for direct flood response, those funds will support lifesaving work for Texas communities.

Happy is settling into a Best Friends foster home nicely and receiving treatment for heartworms. His foster volunteer describes him as "a total snuggle bug" who likes to play and "bunny hop" around the backyard. As sweet and cheerful as Happy is, we're sure he'll land a loving family of his own in no time.

With Happy and the other pets now safe, Best Friends continues to provide emergency supplies to shelters in the area, and we're coordinating closely with Austin Pets Alive!, Footbridge Foundation, and Hill Country Humane Society, which are serving as the primary receiving shelters for animals from flood-affected communities. We're also working with Humane Society of North Texas, Houston Humane Society, Operation Kindness, and SPCA of Texas, as well as coordinating with our staff at Best Friends Pet Adoption Centers, to prepare for additional capacity needs as communities recover.
