If you’re embarking on making your own large-format book, we’ve laid out some tips on how to make the most of your expanded canvas.

How you arrange elements side-by-side can profoundly impact how the story flows from one page to the next. Think of each spread as a stage.

Tip 2: Use white space thoughtfully
Negative space not only allows visuals to breathe but also creates a seamless navigation experience for readers.

Tip 3: Choose high-res images
To avoid pixelated photos, aim for images with a resolution of at least 300 ppi at print size. When in doubt, higher resolution is usually better.

Tip 4: Consider your size
Browse the art section of your local bookstore. You might notice that Large Landscapes (13x11 in) are best for landscapes and architectural photography, while Large Squares (12×12 in) work well for portraits and documentary projects.

This is essential to assess your book’s color accuracy, image quality, text, and layout before going to final print. Plus, you can scan for errors and typos.
