Visiting BU’s NEIDL

The 2026 cohort of Summer Institute in Biostatistics and Data Science (SIBS) visit BU’s National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL) on June 24. There, they learned about NEIDL’s important role in infectious disease research—including its history and safety practices—toured the BSL-4 Simulation Lab and Suit Room, and ended their visit with a career panel featuring NEIDL researchers.

Run by BU’s School of Public Health, SIBS is a program for college undergrads from around the country who have an interest in mathematics, statistics, biology, and health science and want to learn how to apply methods to investigate important health issues. Above, SIBS students meet with Ambre Laprise-Grosz (left), veterinary research support assistant.

Inspired by their time studying abroad in Madrid, the duo brings guests an unforgettable experience complete with multi-course meals, candlelit tablescapes, and restaurant-level attention to detail. But for Isaac and Alex, it's about more than great food; it's about bringing people together.
