Andy,
Thanks to anti-hunger advocates like you, more than 10,000 messages advocating for hunger-relief funding have been sent to state lawmakers during this legislative session — and they are listening. Right now, Minnesota’s food banks and food shelves are each currently slated to receive $5 million in one-time funding in budget bills that your representatives will be voting on during a special legislative session this week.
Contact your state representatives one last time and ask them to vote for this much-needed funding that will help provide nutritious food to hundreds of thousands of families facing food insecurity across our state.
As you know, this funding is particularly crucial considering the more than $1.5 billion in recent state and federal cuts to local food programs. What's more, Congress is now advancing legislation that would cut SNAP spending by 30%, stripping 45,000 Minnesotans of their SNAP benefits and reducing benefits for more than 100,000 of our neighbors.
Additional funding to help partially offset these cuts is on the table because of supporters like you. As we enter the final days of the 2025 legislative session, please encourage your representatives to vote in support of the $5 million in funding for Minnesota's food banks and an additional $5 million for food shelves across the state during this time of record need.
Sincerely,
Caleigh Gumbiner
