Congress could vote on drastic SNAP cuts as soon as today.
Advocacy Update from Second Harvest Heartland

Dear Andy,

Following passage in the Senate, the House could hold a final vote as soon as today on the federal budget bill known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which would drastically cut SNAP and Medicaid by $1 trillion.

These SNAP cuts would be catastrophic, but you can still help try to prevent them by contacting your federal lawmakers today. With just a few clicks, you can send a pre-written letter that urges them to oppose any SNAP cuts. Please contact them and forward this email to family, friends, and colleagues. It’s that simple: click, sign, and share.

These SNAP cuts would immediately strip 45,000 Minnesotans of their SNAP benefits and reduce them for 100,000 others. Countless seniors, kids, and hardworking parents stand to collectively lose more than 48 million meals that SNAP provides each year in Minnesota alone, and 9.5 billion meals nationally. Grocers and other retailers would also lose out on the billions of dollars that SNAP generates in economic activity, which would be especially hard on rural communities.

Unfortunately, there’s no way for food banks and food shelves—already stretched well beyond our means due to historically high demand for emergency food assistance—to make up for these cuts. In fact, as the biggest and most successful anti-hunger program, SNAP provides nine times as many meals as all food banks combined.

Hunger is a policy choice. Drastic cuts to SNAP and Medicaid will strip tens of thousands of Minnesotans of their food and healthcare benefits and reduce them for countless others, pushing record demand for emergency food assistance even higher. Take a minute from your day to ask your federal representatives to make the right choice by voting no.

Sincerely,
