A down day for the newsletter

Welcome to The Logoff: Hi readers! Cameron Peters here — you may remember me from my previous stint filling in on The Logoff. I’m excited to say I’ll be your regular author going forward, so I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.

I’ve been covering American politics since 2020, often with Vox, where I’m currently a staff editor (you’ll also see me over at Today, Explained, Vox’s daily news newsletter). I live in Washington, DC, where I spend a great deal of time running and cultivating an increasingly unsustainable bookshelf situation.

And while its author might be changing, the newsletter won’t be — our mission is to bring you just the information you need to know, giving you the freedom to turn off your push alerts and go about your day.

Now, onto the real reason you’re here: Today, I am happy to report, is a great day to log off. Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill is on the move in the Senate, but with a vote-a-rama (fun name, less fun process) still in the works, there’s nothing that won’t keep for tomorrow.

And with that, it's time to log off...

In Budapest, Hungary, this weekend, more than 100,000 people turned out to march in the city’s annual Pride parade in defiance of a ban by the country’s far-right government. It was a massive show of public support for LGBTQ+ rights in a country where they are under attack, far exceeding the event’s attendance in previous years. I found this story by the Washington Post, following parade organizer Kristof Steiner on the day of the march, particularly hopeful — give it a read, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow.
