Since then, reports from international health authorities show the outbreak continuing to grow rapidly, with suspected cases in DRC now more than doubling from the earliest reported figures as healthcare workers race to contain the spread.
Communities are facing this crisis without an approved vaccine or specific treatment for this strain of Ebola.
