It’s amazing how much can change in just a few short months. Since my last update, Fikere Filate’s family in Ethiopia is already seeing the benefits of raising chickens, both on the farm and at home.

But the chicks were only part of her story. When Fikere joined Heifer’s Enhancing Livelihoods of Smallholders through Improved Poultry Business project, she also received the hands-on training, business knowledge and support needed to build a thriving poultry business. Today, she is managing her flock with the confidence of a skilled farmer and entrepreneur.

As we celebrate the International Year of the Woman Farmer, Fikere’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when women have access to the tools, training and opportunities they need to succeed.

But her story is just one example. Across the globe, women farmers are nourishing their families, growing local businesses and strengthening their communities — creating lasting change that extends far beyond the farm.
