'That's The Kind Of Guy We Want On Our Team'

Yet Dugger has killed the Bengals on two different defenses on two different plays, which is how they envision (on paper) using his physical versatility as the third safety working with starters Bryan Cook and Jordan Battle. When the 6-1, 220-pound Dugger goes into the box on sub packages, you may forget the Bengals spent their money on the front and the back rather than at linebacker.

(According to Pro Football Reference, Dugger missed just three tackles last year while on the field for more than 700 plays.)

Don't let Ja’Marr Chase fool you these days as the Bengals go through voluntary spring workouts in preparation for next week's mandatory minicamp.

Chase can roll his sleepy eyes to the media and talk about how he hates getting up in the morning. Or maybe gloss over his goals-on-the-mirror with the full-blanket Super Bowl pledge. And maybe with a shrug say he doesn't know much about the Bengals schedule, except for Madrid and New Year’s Eve.

But don't kid yourself.

"He's obsessed with being the best," says Joey Boese, chief engineer of Bengals strength and conditioning.

BENGALS ROH MEMBER TIM KRUMRIE VISITS TRENCHES

As tenacious and as tough as ever, Tim Krumrie, who has more tackles than any tackle in the history of the game, stood in Wednesday's after-practice sun of 85 degrees during a visit and gave tips to Bengals rookie tackle Landon Robinson on how to get his first one.

"Separation is vision," Robinson recounted, his face bathed in the sweat of extra work. "Yeah. First time I heard that. But it's true. That's how you see."

The 66-year-old Krumrie, who admits he sees "a little bit of Tim," in Robinson, supplied one of the great visions of the offseason Wednesday when he walked off the baking field talking shop with a fellow multiple Pro Bowl tackle.
