Yuvissa, a CMMB-supported social worker, leads a session with health workers in Peru
Andy,
When life feels overwhelming, we all need someone to turn to. For many vulnerable women in Trujillo, Peru, Yuvissa is that person.
A CMMB-supported social worker, Yuvissa offers healing and hope in times of despair.
In the remote community she serves, her work is essential. Globally, about one in ten women experience depression during pregnancy, with higher rates reported after giving birth. In low- and middle-income countries, depression is even more common: about one in four women experience it during their pregnancy.
In this first week of May, we are in the crossroads of Mental Health Awareness Month and Mother's Day. New mothers face many challenges, including threats to their mental health, and poverty can be a compounding factors in mental health. For Peru’s rural population, both mental and physical health support are vital.
Because of you, more vulnerable mothers and health workers have someone to turn to in their life’s darkest moments.
Yuvissa is proud of her contributions. “Every time I make a difference in the lives of others, it allows me to remain committed to my mission of caring for and providing well-being in the mental and physical health of the community,” she said.
Thanks to your support, and heroes like Yuvissa, CMMB is integrating more mental health care into our programming in Peru. Thank you for giving generously so that CMMB can support people in crisis.
In grace and peace, CMMB - Healthier Lives Worldwide
