Nyadoni, a displaced mother in South Sudan, gets much-needed medical care
Andy,
In a remote village in South Sudan, help was too far for Nyadoni. The 28-year-old mother of four has mourned multiple miscarriages. “I believe this is because of lack of awareness and long distances to health facilities,” she shared.
On World Refugee Day, we must stop to recognize that displacement has many costs: lack of familial support, lack of knowledge of health opportunities, and lack of resources are only the beginning.
With another baby on the way, Nyadoni resigned to make do without medical support, as she always had. Then, because of you, healthcare came to her.
Together with local partner African Community Health Organization (ACHO), CMMB sent an emergency mobile health clinic to Nasir County to treat sickness and screen children for malnutrition. Your support provided prenatal care and supported safe deliveries—lifesaving interventions in a country with one of the world’s highest maternal mortality rates.
Through this intervention, a midwife cared for Nyadoni as her pregnancy progressed and connected her to treatment for malaria, a disease that can be particularly dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn babies.
For Nyadoni, having care that came to her meant everything.
“I would like to appeal to ACHO and its partner (CMMB) to keep supporting the vulnerable areas like my village,” she said.
At CMMB, we are grateful for your continued support. Your generosity makes a difference in the lives of mothers like Nyadoni. As South Sudan faces a new crisis—the threat of Ebola—CMMB can continue to bring healing care to families when they need it most. All thanks to supporters like you.
In grace and peace, CMMB - Healthier Lives Worldwide
