His last verse is 30+ bars, with multiple tempos and memorably brutal one-liners. His delivery of “I’ll make you eat every letter” after he big-ups TDE is Prodigy-esque, as is his closing thought: “You fuck with Dot, I’ll let you choke on your blood.” Gnarly stuff, all delivered over a sample of Erykah Badu’s “On & On.”
That said, the victor of the upcoming VERZUZ is anything but preordained. All I can add is that I’m excited to hear “Toot It and Boot It.”
Over at Complex, you can read our picks for the best Game songs (“On Me” is included, but not quite as high as it would appear on my personal ranking) and the best YG songs. We also have a list of the best Los Angeles rap songs—guess which artist has more appearances.
(While thinking about these catalogs and songs, I realized that “Wouldn’t Get Far,” a Game office favorite, came out two years after “By Your Side,” which uses the same sample and, I would argue, is the more successful song. Shout out to producer Baby Grand for getting there before Kanye.)
L.A. wouldn’t be L.A. without workwear, and this week the Complex style team looked at ten brands producing great apparel that works on the job site and elsewhere.
The Sports team loves L.A. too—in particular, Jon Elmore, the unc with the clean pate who tore it up at the Lakers’ Summer League.
Finally, it’s the end of July, so if you’re looking for back-to-school shoes, we have you covered.
