The Tokyo Gâteau, handmade by our Dandelion Japan team, is unlike anything we bake here in San Francisco. In our Kuramae kitchen, the Pastry team carefully transforms chocolate, butter, eggs, and sugar into a rich, flourless cake that has a silky, whipped-fudge consistency. For Mother’s Day, they’ll be air-shipping these handmade Gâteaux to us here in San Francisco.
Over the years, we’ve experimented with tasting the Tokyo Gâteau at different temperatures. Chilled, it has a texture similar to soft cheese. At room temperature, the chocolate flavor intensifies. When warmed in the oven, it is incredibly airy and soufflé-like. As this cake often sells out, we recommend reserving yours soon.

Order a single Gâteau, or two to share and compare. The single, made from 70% Anamalai chocolate, has tasting notes of caramel, fresh cream, and vanilla. The Duo includes (new this year) a Zorzal Comunitario chocolate Gâteau with notes of sage, milk chocolate pudding, and brownie. Each cake or Duo arrives in a reusable wooden box, with the option of furoshiki gift wrapping.
