Isn't it "funny" how you hear a concept, research it, and then it pops up everywhere you look? That happened to me over the past few weeks with the concept of regulating my nervous system.
I used to think feeling tense, rushed, or constantly “on” was just part of life and came with the territory or running a business, being a wife & mom, and trying to show up for everyone. I didn’t question it. I just pushed through.
But recently, I’ve been reading about regulating your nervous system. In short, that's just a simple way of saying "helping your body calm down."
This week, I tried a guided meditation that included tapping (through Rewired Retail Collective with Kristin Fisher). At first, it felt a little different, maybe even a little awkward. But as I followed along and focused on my breathing, I felt my body soften, my shoulders drop, and my thoughts slow. I didn’t fix anything, but I felt steadier.
Through this exercise, I started to understand that self-connection isn't only about mindset. It’s about paying attention to your body and noticing things like your shoulders hunched and tight, your breath shallow, or your jaw clenched. The next step is to choose something small that helps you feel safe and grounded again.
Sometimes that’s mediation, journaling, listening to music, or a quiet walk.
Sometimes it’s lighting a candle and letting yourself sit without trying to solve anything.
It's been a good reminder that self-care isn’t about doing more or adding more to your plate. It can be about helping your body remember it’s okay to rest.
I hope that this inspires you to check in with yourself this week (is your body feeling tight and stressed) and find ways to rest and reset.
love & do good -
