Ok, the Snack is back early in the week again. I’m trying to get it together, but I need more time for the longer post this week! The store is OPEN! Email me - [email protected] to make an appointment, OR! Swing by on October 21 between 10:30-5 to come to the E.M. Reitz trunkshow (gorgeous, specialty shirting), OR! On October 29 or 30th for a trunkshow with Métier bags. Email me for the address & info - [email protected].

And now, onto the snack!

SLEEPYTIME CAPSULES

I’ve never really had that hard of a time sleeping, it’s my stupid pet trick that I can sleep basically anywhere, but since getting back from Paris, jet lag has hit me hard. I’m exhausted all day, but then feel wired at night, and wake up three or four times throughout the night, sometimes for over an hour. At my age, I do not bounce back quickly from large time differences. I was sent these sleep enhancing capsules from Sakara, and they’ve really helped me wind down at night, and then stay asleep. They don’t make me feel loopy or weird in the morning (I used to take Ambien for stuff like this and I always felt like shit the next day, even ZZZquil is too intense for me), just kind of bright eyed and rested. After the first few days home of not sleeping well, I started using these and my transition back to regular sleep has been much, much smoother. If you’re new to Sakara (I also love their de-stress gummies) you can use the code LAUREL20 for 20% off an order over $100. Sakara Night Service, $55

SWEED BEAUTY HAIR REGROWTH STUFF

I’ve been a long-time evangelist of this serum for growing your eyelashes longer (yes, it really works, but you have to commit! It takes about three months), and then they sent me a roller ball version that you can use to help your head hair. Prayers answered. I can’t roll it all over my head, so I focus it on the front of my part, and the less dense areas at my temples where I lost a lot of hair postpartum (and it never really grew back normally), but then I also started rolling it over my eyebrows (which is definitely an off-label use, and they might yell at me) but it has really helped grow my brows in thicker. They make a brow serum too, but there’s something very satisfying about the rollerball on your eyebrows. You really feel like they’re getting coated. Sweed Hair Serum, $95

READING GLASSES

When I was in Paris, I tried on a friend’s reading glasses and…holy shit, it turns out, I need reading glasses. I was blown away by how crisp everything looked, and how much easier it was to read. I didn’t even realize my eyes were straining, though I guess given my age I should have. I’m ordering a few pairs for myself (at +1.25) and I really like these wire frames from Warby Parker. I was temped to go thick plastic aviators (the sexy woman over 40 signature) but I resisted. I also love these cat eyes, but ultimately, I think best to start slow with a pair of basic but chic wire frames. Warby Parker, $145

GREAT CHINOS

I’ve spent considerable time, effort, and resources looking for a perfect pair of Chinos. I always want ones that fit like a man’s, but don’t actually fit like a man’s. You know? Like, they look like cool guy pants, but they don’t give me diaper booty or long crotch. Today I got served an ad for Frank & Eileen and you know what, I think these are the pants? I think they’re the perfect straight leg, not to long, not too cropped, not too anything chinos. They have a tiny bit of stretch, which I don’t love, but they look like they fit like a dream. If you have them, will you let me know how they are? Frank & Eileen pants, $298

NAIL CARE

One of my best friends and I are always trying to figure out our vices—we need new, good vices, and we both kind of delight in trying to figure out what harmless things we can indulge in to feel vice-like. My most recent is taking very, very good care of my cuticles. I spend an inordinate amount of my personal maintenance time working on my cuticles. I love them. I got a nail kit from this super chic brand Celisse, and it kicked off the whole thing. I’d love to give this complete kit to all of my friends this year. It comes with a gorgeous little file, a buffer, cuticle oil (a dream), a clear top coat, and three sheer nail colors so they too can discover the joys of tending to their cuticles with the care and delicate attention of a Bonsai master to his tree. Outside of Celisse, I really love this decadent Chanel cuticle oil, which comes with a little cuticle pusher included. I find Chanel’s hand moisturizer very pleasing as well. I love the little pebble-shaped container. The cuticle oil + hand cream would really make an excellent gift, as well. I’m honestly all about nail care this year, I’m so into this stuff.

MY FALL WISHLIST

The funny thing about having a store is that I’m in constant acquisition mode, constant buying/selling/moving of clothes mode, it’s made me weirdly want things for myself much less. It scratches the itch more deeply than shopping for myself ever has, and I find myself more or less satisfied with what’s already in my closet (which also makes sense because my closet is STUFFED). It’s kind of like cooking a meal, you spend all this time making it and then you’re happy to see other people eating it, but you don’t really feel like you need any yourself.
So my actual, personal fantasy wish list is a lot smaller this season. Here’s what’s on it.

1. I’m a big Dries van Noten fan/collector, and I like to get one or two pieces every season. I love these pants for the insane color, but classic fit. The print is subtle but definitely there, and I think these would look great with a striped button down, or a grey sweatshirt—my two go-tos. Dries van Noten pants, $925

2. I also really love Simone Rocha. I don’t have occasion to wear most of the dresses I covet, but this long sleeve shirt is very cool and very her. I can imagine wearing it with a lot, and loving it for years. Simone Rocha, $300

3. These are a real indulgence, but how gorgeous are they? And I know they’d wear in beautifully. I also love that they don’t SCREAM Bottega. They’re kind of subtle. Bottega Veneta, $1,065

4. I love Simone Rocha men’s as much as I love women’s. I especially love the novelty blazers with little subtle embellishments. I have a gorgeous one from Spring, and am currently eyeing this one as well. Simone Rocha blazer, $1,930

5. Ok, this isn’t entirely fair, because I actually already have these, and I love them. I wore them in Paris with something much more formal and they looked great, but they’d also look great with a grey t-shirt and those Bottega flats. I love them, I love them, I love them. Auralee, $675

That’s it! There we are!

If you’re in LA, come see my store. Email me! [email protected]
