Saturday Snack: Time To Chill!

Little tidbits from around the internet.

Happy Holidays everybody! I sort of spaced out this week, but I did send one thing about being sober on the holidays. Sobriety is the biggest gift I’ve given myself, so it seemed appropriate.

Today’s send is all about the after the storm dead zone between xmas and when everyone has to go back to school and work. When you forget which day of the week it is, and you start to forget what work you do or who you are. It is a glorious time. And all of these items were handpicked to help you reach peak relaxation, peak indulgence.

I’ll be back in the shop starting January 5, so if you’re in town and would like to come by, email me at [email protected], or make an appointment here. We’ll have lots of great new deliveries in from Róhe and Kallmeyer.

THIS RELAXATION GUMMY

Our holiday travel plans include three cities, four Christmases, and six beds. We are schlepping and happily, but we’re schlepping. I get overstimulated very easily when traveling with my kids, and also at big gatherings (being sober it’s hard for me to tune out or zone out and so I get overwhelmed pretty quickly), and I have gotten used to having one of these Serene State gummies from Sakara to help me stay level. They don’t have THC or CBD, but they do give a bit of a calm yet alert vibe. It helps me to not feel so fried out when the pressure is on, and I’m able to stay present. I’ve used these consistently (as needed) for a few months and they definitely help. Sakara, $65

SOMETHING BETTER THAN UGGS

These look one hundred times better than Uggs (I love Uggs, but they’ve become so synonymous with a certain type of LA Alo-Yoga “Influencer” that I just can’t) and feel just as great. They’re like wearing a foot massage outside, and thanks to the rubber sole (which extends up around the foot), you can wear them anywhere without worrying about fucking up the suede. I love everything about these, and when something so practical is also so beautiful, I really can’t resist. Le Monde Beryl, $670

TAN LUXE THE BUTTER

At about this time of year, I really start missing my tan. And yes, it’s awful to have a tan, but man is it great to have a tan! I have no vices, so let me have this. I finally got the memo on “everything showers” and this week I plan to do a full exfoliation and then slather myself in this gradual tan butter. It’s super hydrating, and this brand has never given me an orange color—always totally natural. I cannot wait to use this stuff. Tan Luxe The Butter, $38

PRETTY BATH SALTS

I’m prone to migraines, and lately when I get one, it helps to get in a very warm bath in the dark, put a ton of epsom salt in the bath, and sip on very cold water with electrolytes. It sucks to do it when I have a migraine, but it is a very, very nice ritual. I love having cold water to drink in a hot bath! I’ve heard great things about these bath salts, they contain three different types of mineral-rich salts, plus activated charcoal, and they smell terrific. I’m getting them as a treat to myself to use when I’m not feeling well. Commune Bath Salts, $107

A SPECIAL CASHMERE SWEATER (on sale)

I like to get myself a really nice cashmere sweater every season. I take good care of them, and I think if you invest in quality and care for it, it will last a really long time. Lisa Yang is one of my go-to brands, I carry it in the store, and it’s my personal favorite for cashmere. This year, I’m thinking of taking in this sweater, which has a rolled, wide mock neck. It feels romantic and 90s and is just so beautiful. Lisa Yang, $440 (was $550)

THIS EARL GREY CANDLE

Oh man oh man, this smells so great. Not overpowering, not cloying, not super christmassy, just really warm and nice and comfortable. To be honest, the gold jar isn’t my favorite (I like the Tomato one the best) but I do love this scent. Something nice to carry me through the end of winter now that we have to take down our tree. Loewe, $290

THIS AMAZING HAIR STUFF

My hair is curly and highlighted, so it is delicate and often feels very dry. I’ve used a lot of in-shower deep conditioners and things like that and found some I really love, but this does something different to my hair. You mix the solution with water in the spray bottle that comes with it, and the spray comes out as this super fine mist that very lightly coats your hair. I leave the solution on for a day or whatever, and when I rinse it out my hair feels so much softer and all around better for a week or so. It’s a bond repair thing, which I guess makes your hair stronger and temporarily fixes damage, but man, it totally works for me. Epres Bond Repair Kit, $50

A HEAVENLY FOOT MASSAGER

Of all the joys to be had in life, there are few as wonderful as sitting alone with a book and rolling the soles of your feet over a gadget like this. My goodness, the pressure through the arch of your foot! It is so wonderful, I just cannot get enough. I love, love, LOVE this thing. Chirp Foot Roller, $17

A NEW VASE FOR THE HOUSE

Along with sweaters, I like to add a new vase to our collection every year. It’s a small upgrade, but it’s pretty impactful to have A) fresh flowers and B) something beautiful and special to put them in. Right now I love this glass one by 101 Copenhagen. At 19” it’s pretty big, and will definitely make a statement. I love the irregular shape and texture. I think it would be so beautiful full of tulips in the spring. 101 Copenhagen, $375

And there we are!

Have a great week of rotting, I might be back in a day or two with my list of the horniest books I read this year.
