The Art of Celebrating the
Fourth of July

The Fourth of July has always felt less like a holiday and more like a feeling—a celebration of long summer days, gathering outdoors, and the traditions that make this season memorable.

I think back to catching fireflies at dusk, waiting for fireworks wrapped in a blanket, being the the midst of summer. It’s those small moments, more than the decorations, that define Americana nostalgia.

Celebrating Americana Through Art

For me, celebrating the Fourth is also about honoring the beauty of Americana through art—the nostalgia of sparklers at dusk, vintage linens, summer gardens, roadside hydrangeas, and evenings spent outdoors beneath a sky lit with fireworks.

These fleeting moments become the memories we return to years later.

So this year, set the table, wear the striped dress, bring out the good dishes, and stay outside until the stars appear. Sometimes the most meaningful celebrations are simply ordinary summer evenings, beautifully noticed.

Dressing for the Fourth

When it comes to Fourth of July style, I love a timeless approach. A classic striped dress in blue and white or red and white feels festive without being overly themed.

A blue-and-white stripe captures coastal charm and classic Americana, while red-and-white stripes feel cheerful and fresh. Paired with woven sandals, a straw tote, and simple gold jewelry, a striped dress becomes an effortless summer staple you’ll wear long after the holiday has passed.
