Civilians in Iran and across the Middle East are paying the price for unlawful and reckless acts of violence.¹

The escalation in hostilities following the ongoing joint U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran and retaliatory Iranian strikes across the region is putting civilians at grave risk — and the death toll is rising. Hundreds of people, including 150 schoolgirls, have been killed.²

Schools, hospitals, homes, airports, and prisons have been hit. Entire communities are fleeing and living in fear. Children and families are under constant attack.³

We must not turn our backs on civilians caught in the crossfire. Amnesty is actively monitoring developments to assess civilian harm and the impact on human rights.

And your voice is needed to protect civilians and prevent further bloodshed. Urge Congress to take action to protect civilians and end unlawful attacks.

International humanitarian law is clear: direct attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited. Attacks that indiscriminately or disproportionately impact civilians are unlawful.⁴

Yet the violence is expanding. Military operations currently involve more than 10 countries — and the U.S. is warning that “the hardest hits are yet to come.”⁵
