Andy, we have a critical update on our Giving Tuesday goal, and we had to tell you right away. In response to the urgent state of our planet and its vulnerable inhabitants, we’ve INCREASED our Giving Tuesday match to $475,000 – and we still need supporters from your area to pitch in before this extension expires at midnight tonight. That means you can still triple your impact to help save vulnerable orcas and our planet!

With the last 74 Southern Resident orcas hanging on by a thread and dirty industries threatening to invade their waters, we can’t afford to scale back our work. Just look at what Southern Resident orcas have endured in the last few years alone: FIRST: Tahlequah first captured hearts across the nation in 2018 when she carried her dead baby across 1,000 MILES over 17 DAYS in a devastating “tour of grief.” THEN: In January of this year, Tahlequah clung to a second limp calf – marching on for another 11 days, unable to say goodbye. NOW: Just two months ago, mama orca Alki lost her newborn daughter and balanced her body on her nose for days, the umbilical cord still trailing next to them. Now, the remaining orcas in Tahlequah and Alki’s families are facing EXTINCTION – just one major oil spill would be enough to wipe them off the face of the Earth. Please, while our $2-to-$1 Giving Tuesday match is still live: Donate anything you can to help us meet our increased Giving Tuesday goal and save these precious whales, their habitats, and our planet before the loss is too great.

Andy, no mama orca should have to experience this heartbreaking grief. But sadly, most orca pregnancies are unsuccessful – and out of the ones that are, only HALF of them make it to their first birthday. This is happening because orcas’ main source of food – Chinook salmon – is running out, with two runs classified as endangered already. And as Big Oil and Shipping projects roll into fragile orca habitat, the noise and pollution makes it harder for orcas to find the few fish that are left. You see, orcas hunt using sonar. The sound from ongoing oil projects and shipping vessels disrupts their sound waves, making it nearly impossible to find food. As a result, orcas are left starving to death – and forced to grieve their family members constantly. This grief can even plunge them further into starvation as they forgo hunting to cling to their deceased babies! Right now, the last 74 Southern Resident orcas need our help urgently. Can you pitch in just $15 today – while $15 becomes $45 – to help secure a future for them and protect our only Earth?

As Big Polluters gear up to push more destructive oil and shipping projects in orca habitat, precious orcas aren’t the only ones that will feel the impacts. Communities nearby rely on the ocean for their livelihood. These projects drive away the fish that fisherfolk need to make a living. And if there are any fish, they could be covered in oil or unsafe to eat thanks to the pollution. At the same time, orca-related tourism – a source of jobs in the area – will suffer if there aren’t any orcas to see. Locals could be left struggling to put food on the table for them and their families. Ask yourself, Andy: do you think that the survival of orcas, people, and our planet is a fair price to pay for these Big Polluters to line their pockets? We don’t think so. That’s why Friends of the Earth is fighting for stronger orca protections and pushing back against Big Polluter projects that threaten wildlife, people, and our planet. But we can’t do this work without help from members like you, and we’re counting on you to take advantage of our 3X MATCH EXTENSION before it expires at midnight tonight! Orcas, people, and our planet are on the line. Donate $15 now to make TRIPLE the impact before the clock strikes midnight and our 3X Match Extension expires!
