Although you were unable to join JDC’s Venezuela Earthquake Briefing on June 30, we wanted to share this update with you. Thank you for your continued engagement at this critical moment.

Venezuela is facing the devastating aftermath of one of the country's most severe natural disasters in decades. The earthquakes on June 24th caused widespread loss, injury, and displacement, leaving countless families confronting an uncertain and complex road to recovery.

This tragedy has also deeply affected Venezuela’s Jewish community. During the briefing, we heard firsthand reflections from Roberto Mishkin, President of the Unión Israelita de Caracas, who described its profound impact – including the heartbreaking loss of community members, families displaced from their homes, and communal institutions serving as shelters for those in need. His remarks offered a powerful reminder that, even amid profound loss and uncertainty, communities are finding strength in one another and the trusted partners whose longstanding commitment helps sustain them through moments of crisis.

We also shared how JDC is responding on two fronts: supporting the Jewish community and delivering humanitarian assistance to the broader population. Because of our deep, decades-long partnership with Venezuela's Jewish community and trusted local networks, JDC was able to mobilize immediately – reaching vulnerable individuals, coordinating emergency aid, and helping meet urgent humanitarian needs.

At the same time, the needs extend well beyond the immediate moment. As rescue efforts continue, the focus is already shifting to recovery – rebuilding, restoring services, and addressing the lasting human impact. This will take sustained commitment in the months and years ahead.
