Which village is home to three of the five First Growths (aka the most prestigious estates in Bordeaux)? If you said “Pauillac,” you know your Bordeaux (or you used context clues above to guess correctly). You’ll also know Pauillac is hallowed ground for Cabernet Sauvignon. These First Growth estates “officially” sit at the top Bordeaux’s pyramid, but that classification was published in 1855. Today, there are handful of Grand Cru Classé châteaux that critics and aficionados believe produce wines of equal (or sometimes greater) quality. These cult reds are called “Super Seconds,” and in some cases, they are just as collectible as the First Growths—which is certainly true with the château behind this exquisite red.
