Care. No matter what.

The Trump administration and its allies in Congress have caused so much damage since they "defunded" Planned Parenthood health centers last year. We just released a new report detailing the harm to patients, and we’re breaking it down for you, below:
On July 4, 2025, President Trump signed H.R. 1 into law. His "big, ugly bill" included a provision "defunding" Planned Parenthood, which aimed to block patients from using their Medicaid insurance for cancer screenings, wellness exams and more at Planned Parenthood health centers. The "defund" provision expired on July 4, 2026, but Congressional Republicans are angling to make it permanent.
Planned Parenthood has spent every day since the bill passed working to protect patients. Planned Parenthood Federation of America and two local Planned Parenthood member organizations immediately sued to stop the "defunding" law, and a court order delayed enforcement of the law until September 2025, allowing patients to continue getting care for as long as possible. Many Planned Parenthood health centers were able to absorb the costs of patient visits following enforcement, and made strategic decisions to minimize the number of patients hurt by "defunding."

Even with the valiant efforts by Planned Parenthood affiliates to soften the blow, "defunding" Planned Parenthood has had a devastating effect on care:
  • Between October 2025 and April 2026, almost 25% fewer packs of birth control were distributed and breast exams decreased by 20% at Planned Parenthood health centers, compared to the previous year.
  • Since July 2025, nearly 30 health centers have closed. All were located in counties where too few health care providers offer the full range of methods for women eligible for publicly-funded birth control.
  • Two-thirds (66%) of health center closures were in rural areas, medically underserved areas, or those lacking adequate primary care providers.
  • The health centers that closed had served more than 10,000 abortion patients annually.
  • 64% of health center closures were in states where abortion is legal.
Even though the law has lapsed, these closures are having lasting effects. And the risk is far from over. Right now, lawmakers are pushing to "defund" Planned Parenthood permanently. If they get their way, patients' health and lives will be at further risk and more health centers will shut down — but we won’t back down. Planned Parenthood health centers are committed to finding new ways to preserve and expand access to care:
  💗
Planned Parenthood affiliates are expanding access to telehealth services. Telehealth is available in all areas where a health center has been forced to close.
  💗
New health centers opened in two key states — Colorado and Virginia — since the “defund” law was signed.
  💗
Using Planned Parenthood Direct, Planned Parenthood affiliates offered telehealth in three new states: Alabama, Louisiana, and New Hampshire, and expanded telehealth medication abortion in six additional states.

We will never stop fighting for a world where all people are free to control their own bodies and get the care they deserve to lead healthy lives. Please consider making a gift to Planned Parenthood to support and expand access to high-quality, affordable health care across the country.

Thank you for being a staunch supporter of reproductive health care.
