As everything in life has become more convenient, more virtual and less dependent on place, a permanent change to WFH was bound to happen. COVID-19 just accelerated the inevitable.

We gather in skinned Zoom rooms and have company outings in VR. But home is still the domain of the tactile and the tangible, and if we’re going to work from home, we need to bring all of the best elements of the office with us and leave the rest behind. Whether you find yourself struggling to WFH or thriving as the master of your domain depends not on some innate capacity for self-starting and organizing, but on adherence to a handful of principles that generate a space and mindset of ease and productivity. The principles are not rules; you needn’t stop wearing sweatpants or buy a special telemarketing headset. But they will help you stay focused and avoid blurring the lines between work and the rest of what happens in your life at home.

The following six lessons are designed to help you do just that. In each, you’ll hear from experts in fields ranging from furniture design to interior decorating, lighting, cognitive behavior and biophilic design about how you can make working from home both more pleasant and productive. You’ll learn how to create a space for work, use light to your advantage, clear your mind by organizing your workspace, manage your attention, and check the ergonomics of your own home office.
