A Record-Breaking Day of Adoptions ☀️🐾

On June 7, the SF SPCA joined over 200 shelters and rescues across California for the second annual California Adopt-a-Pet Day—and it was our biggest adoption day ever. Preliminary numbers show close to 5,000 animals were adopted statewide! With waived adoption fees and lots of happy tails, 140 animals found loving homes, including all 91 of our kittens. That’s an 80% increase in adoptions from last year and an all-time single-day record for our organization!
We’re proud to partner with CalAnimals and the ASPCA to make life-changing moments like this possible.

During Pride Month, we’re celebrating the love that brings people and pets together. From June 16–30, you can name your price for all adoptable animals at our shelter.

What Are Your Cats Saying to Each Other? 🐱🐱

From gentle grooming to dramatic tail flicks, cats have a lot to say, and they rarely need words to do it. Dr. Alison Gerken, Veterinary Behaviorist at the SF SPCA, breaks down the subtle (and sometimes surprising) ways cats communicate using body language, scent, and sound.

Raven’s Happy Tail 🐕
|
|
When Jeffrey and his partner, Alex, met Raven, a gentle 7-year-old retriever mix, at our adoption center, they knew he was the dog for them.
However, Alex was heading out of town on a trip, so the couple planned to finalize the adoption when he returned. That is, until Jeffrey had an idea.

|
While Alex was away, Jeffrey returned to the SF SPCA to adopt Raven early and surprise him.
The result? One very sweet homecoming. Now, Raven enjoys long walks, lazy afternoons, and couch cuddles—his favorite spot nestled between his two dads.
