Wimp Decaf Coffee Co
Coffee on a saucer inside of a cafe

Hi, my name is Matthew. I'm one half of the team behind Wimp, and I'm still talking about Bekele. Why? A couple emails back I admitted I over-ordered it, thinking you can never have too much of a good thing. Update: you can. There are 119 bags left and I'd like them to live in your kitchen instead of my inventory spreadsheet, where they judge me daily.

Quick refresher on why this mistake deserves your attention. Bekele comes from Suke Quto, a farm in Ethiopia's Guji region that Tesfaye Bekele (that's him above) rebuilt after wildfires tore through it. Dude planted trees until the forest came back 💪🏼. The coffee dries slow, cherry-on, and ends up tasting like blueberries and milk chocolate had a little fruit baby. We named the bag after him because, I mean, what a badass.

And if you're a "nah, I don't do light roast" person, listen: Bekele honestly leans medium, not light, and it's got flavor for days. Light just means we didn't torch it with a hell stick. I've been drinking it all week, sometimes mixed with Coltrane, which is probably illegal in specialty coffee circles. Don't care. I choose delicious.

The deal's the same, but the code got funnier. Buy any bag, add a Bekele, punch in TAKEMYBEKELE at checkout, and the Bekele's part will be free. Buy two, get two free. After this week we'll be shipping them out as free gifts in small bags. You all get to benefit from my mistakes, ha!

The new Special Projects are around the corner. My friend Juan Diaz at Know-Where-Coffee has been slipping me some of the wildest coffees I've ever tasted, and I'm itching to roast them for you. Every Bekele you grab gets us there faster.

★★★★★

Bekele is another ELITE light roast offering from Wimp. Flavor notes are spot on, and the coffee has a very pleasant creamy texture. The chocolate note is followed with blueberry at the finish, and together they make a fantastic sweet/tart combo. Brewed at 200F as an immersion brew, I had ZERO bitterness. I can't believe this stuff is decaf.

This is by far the best decaf coffee I've ever had and the vibe of Wimp is felt throughout each sip. Thank you for creating and sharing this lifestyle through a delicious cup of decaf!

Probably a bad idea

A Wave / 27 years of goodbyes.
Every time photographer Deanna Dikeman drove away from her parents' house, she snapped a photo of them waving from the driveway. She did it for 27 years. I won't spoil the last photo. Go call your mom.

A Grin / Big chunky lines and a wink.
@jean_jullien paints the everyday with fat happy brushstrokes. Paintings, ceramics, skate decks, whatever holds still long enough. It's art that doesn't take itself too seriously, which somehow makes it better than most art that does.

A Trick / Your eyes are lying to you.
Somebody built a whole playground of optical illusions and left it lying around for free. Stare at the spinny one too long and the whole room starts breathing. I lost a solid chunk of an afternoon in here and I regret nothing.

A Scribble / Your handwriting, now a font.
Draw your letters, get a real font you can type with anywhere. Costs nothing, takes a few minutes. Nobody writes anything by hand anymore, so this might be the sneakiest way to keep yours alive.

A Ripple / Giving away $500,000, $500 at a time.
A global experiment built on one bet: if more than half of us gave more than we took, we'd be ok. They're handing a thousand people $500 each to go be generous with. You can even apply. That's the kind of math I can get behind.

Thought I'd start to leave with some of my favorite images of the week. This made me chuckle.
