My talented friend and Beaumont buddy, Nishant, the “Sneaky Artist” and I are opening our studios next week and you’re invited.

What’s on, what’s new:

• Excitingly, Nishant has taken over his entire studio, right next to Honest to Pete Coffee, and we are celebrating with the toastiest, summeryist studio warming!

• To commemorate, he and I have collaborated on three hand thrown ceramic pieces that he’ll be drawing on (something we have been meaning to do for ages).

• In MiMOKO celebrations, Grounded in Place has taken on a new form and this time it’s with local materials.

  I am in the midst of experimenting with crushed rocks and minerals found at my local beaches and lakes. The first tests are out and they are impressive!

• Alongside looking at new work and experiments, come and watch me the wheel. If you’ve never seen live throwing demos before, it’s mesmerizing!

• and of course, find one of a kind pieces not available in my webshop.

New experiments with

Grounded in Place

This month I am embarking in developing a new clay body using rocks and minerals collected from around Vancouver, exploring how the geology of this place can become part of my work.

I’m only beginning to uncover the incredible geological diversity here and I’m so excited to see how this translate into clay!

I’ve always loved collecting rocks and stones (as does Oscar) but who would have guessed that I’d be incorporating these into my work on day! I am loving the geology 101 facts I’m learning too.

I’m using a steel mortar and pestle to crush the rock. Surprisingly not as difficult as I had anticipated.
