The World Cup is coming; Now, here’s Center Circle for you.
Yakko’s World may not be the definitive source of geographical knowledge — and not all of the names they mention in the song are competing this summer — but ahead of the largest World Cup in history, I suggest giving this Animaniacs classic a listen or two. All of the countries of the world in under two minutes; a lyrical masterpiece that’ll be stuck in your head the rest of your life. Yes, I know. You’re welcome.
Following your Loons’ 1-1 draw against RSL in their World Cup sendoff match, the stage is set for 48 nations to duke it out for the ultimate title in the beautiful game, and it’s right on our doorstep this time around. Tune in to watch Michael Boxall with New Zealand, James Rodríguez with Colombia, and Carlos Harvey with Panama, and then tune into every other game because there’s nothing else you should be doing with your time over the next two months. Seriously.
While our attention is turned toward the international stage, there are still plenty of ways to get involved right here in the good ‘ol MN. Join us for select Soccer Celebration dates
in downtown Minneapolis, follow along with our round-by-round World Cup coverage, and get yourself out in the sun with a soccer ball. It’s gonna be a good summer, folks.
