Tardigrade Power

New research may help to protect cancer patients from the side effects of radiation therapy. Inspired by the tardigrade, a tiny organism that can withstand huge amounts of radiation, engineers developed a strategy for protecting healthy tissue from DNA damage.

Benedetta Magni speaks in lecture hall. Text via @‌mitsloanadmissions: “Everything feels possible here … the MIT ecosystem is amazing.” Since coming to MIT Sloan, Benedetta Magni, MFin ’25, has fully embraced the exploratory spirit embedded into the Institute’s DNA. She’s discovered new professional interests such as event planning, entrepreneurship, and venture capital, as well as yoga and Pilates. And this past summer, she interned at an investment banking internship at Perella Weinberg Partners in London. As for future career plans? “As I spend more time here, the more I am convinced I want to create something of my own, that has a positive impact on people’s lives,” she says.

Lunar lander Athena is ready to explore the moon: Here’s what on board // USA Today

On Wednesday, MIT engineers and scientists sent three payloads into space, on a course set for the moon’s south polar region. They include a tiny thumb-sized rover dubbed “AstroAnt” that will help monitor the larger space vehicle. “AstroAnt is designed to inspect external surfaces of spacecraft, and will also collect thermal data and measurements while the rover explores.”
