An offshore drilling plan is on the table, but history shows it doesn’t stand a chance when communities speak up.

When communities speak up, offshore drilling stops
Communities have stopped offshore drilling before. By working together, we can do it again. Since the 1969 Santa Barbara oil spill, West Coast communities have repeatedly blocked offshore drilling proposals. Along the East Coast, widespread opposition stopped the Trump administration’s offshore drilling proposal during his first term. In Florida, strong community opposition has kept much of the eastern gulf off-limits. Alaska’s Bristol Bay was permanently protected from offshore exploration and drilling thanks to the determination and leadership of Alaska Tribal Nations, the fishing industry, community members, and businesses. These victories happened because people spoke up and stayed engaged.
