The Root: Exclusive: How the NAACP’s New β€˜Out of Bounds’ Campaign is Changing the Recruiting Game for Black Athletes
The Root spoke exclusively with NAACP President Derrick Johnson, who said the campaign is a direct response to what the organization views as a coordinated effort across former Confederate states to diminish the ability of Black communities to elect candidates of their choice.

Democracy Docket: USPS rule advancing Trump’s mail-voting attack violates settlement, NAACP alleges
The NAACP asked a federal court Wednesday to stop the U.S. Postal Service from enforcing a Trump-backed rule that could block eligible voters from receiving mail-in ballots β€” arguing the plan violates a court-enforced settlement that requires USPS to prioritize election mail through 2028.

Mississippi Today: Rep. Bennie Thompson: Redistricting ruling β€˜spits in face’ of Medgar Evers and others who fought for voting rights
Two years before the Voting Rights Act was passed into law, on June 12, 1963, NAACP civil rights leader Medgar Evers drove back to his home in Jackson with a T-shirt that read β€œJim Crow Must Go.” His wife and children waited up past midnight for his return. As he approached his doorstep, an assassin’s bullet took his life – and his voice.

Tennessee Lookout: NAACP files for federal court injunction to stop new Tennessee congressional map
The same day the Democratic Party dropped its lawsuit challenging Tennessee’s new U.S. House map, the state NAACP chapter is petitioning a federal judicial panel to block the map while its case goes forward.

Local Memphis: NAACP files another motion in its attempt to block Tennessee’s new congressional district map
The NAACP’s new motion argues that the State of Tennessee purposefully targeted Black voters when drawing the new congressional map.

Fox13: NAACP files new motion to block Tennessee congressional map in 2026 elections
The filing marks the NAACP’s third legal challenge to the map. The organization previously filed lawsuits in federal and state court. The federal lawsuit remains active, while the state case was dismissed.

Legal challenges continue for Tennessee’s new congressional map.

WREG: NAACP files motion for injunction to block TN congressional map
The motion asks the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee to halt the map from being implemented before the 2026 elections, the NAACP said. It argues that the plan was enacted with β€œdiscriminatory intent” in violation of the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments.

MedCity News: What the β€˜One Nation, Overcharged’ Campaign Aims to Achieve
The campaign is a threefold initiative, according to Dr. Tony Price, senior fellow within the Center for Health Equity at the NAACP. … β€œHealthcare is a right, and people should not have to sacrifice their finances to get healthcare. I think most people, whether they realize it or not, are one accident away from financial ruin,” Price said in an interview.

19th: Meet the women leading the people-powered push against data centers
β€œPeople power is still on our side. I don’t think many of these companies, or some folks in elected roles, thought they were going to face as much opposition as they’re facing,” (Abre’) Conner said. β€œWe are seeing more people than ever talking about environmental and climate justice issues, and that is really encouraging.”

POCIT: Protesters in East London Call Against Plans For Data Center
The NAACP recently filed a request for a preliminary injunction to stop air pollution from Elon Musk’s company, xAI, and its parent company, MZX Tech. The NAACP informed xAI and MZX Tech that their personal power plant, comprising 27 gas-fired turbines, violates the Clean Air Act and poses a risk to local communities’ health. The claims were ignored, and xAI brought 6 additional gas turbines on site, bringing the total to 33.

KTVU: San Francisco’s Rev. Amos Brown to receive highest NAACP honor
The former pastor emeritus of San Francisco’s Third Baptist Church, which is the oldest Black congregation in the U.S. west of the Mississippi, will be receiving one of the most prestigious awards in the Black community, according to the NAACP’s news release.

Alabama Political Reporter: Alabama NAACP honors Dorothea Crosby
Growing up in a multi-generational family dedicated to the struggle for civil rights helped shape Crosby’s steadfast commitment to service, advocacy and leadership, the Alabama State NAACP shared in its press release. β€œHer life’s work reflects the enduring mission and values of the NAACP to advance equality, protect civil rights, and create opportunities that empower individuals, families, and communities.”

OUT OF BOUNDS

Out of Bounds

Black athletes have built powerhouse college programs across the South, generating millions in revenue. Yet, southern states are attacking Black voting rights, erasing representation while profiting from Black talent. This is Out of Bounds. The NAACP is calling on Black athletes, families, alumni, and fans to withhold athletic and financial support from public universities in these states until they protect Black voting power.
