Defender,
The Trump administration is trying to auction off the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge piece by piece – endangering hundreds of species who call the Arctic home.
Before oil and gas companies place their bids, they need to hear from the public. We’re raising our voices to protect polar bears, caribou, birds and so many more animals who depend on the Arctic to survive!
Send a message today: Don’t pursue oil and gas development leasing in the Arctic Refuge!
The Bureau of Land Management is accepting bids for oil and gas leases on 1.56 million acres of the Coastal Plain of the Refuge.
That Coastal Plain is vital habitat for the Porcupine Caribou Herd, migratory birds – and especially the Southern Beaufort Sea population of polar bears, who are currently listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
If oil companies move forward with placing bids on Arctic habitat, those animals could be harassed, harmed and displaced by an industrial invasion of noisy construction and pollution.
The good news is that past Arctic Refuge lease sales have failed because these developments are risky due to high costs and uncertain success – in fact, the 2025 sale received no bids at all.
The Trump administration will announce the winning bids on June 5. It’s critical that we speak up right away and let potential buyers know that protecting the Arctic Refuge and its wildlife is more important than the slim chance of short-term profits!
