Dear NRDC Supporter,
Our oceans cover more than 70 percent of the planet and sustain life on Earth. They feed billions of people, support millions of livelihoods, help regulate our climate, and provide a home for an extraordinary diversity of marine life.
But today, our oceans are under growing threat. They’re being overfished, exploited for oil and gas development, subjected to increasing underwater noise, and warming at an alarming rate. At the same time, the Trump administration and its allies are advancing an aggressive agenda that puts corporate interests ahead of healthy oceans, marine wildlife, and coastal communities.
NRDC’s leading ocean experts are coming together for a virtual town hall to discuss what’s happening beneath the surface, what’s at stake for our oceans, and how NRDC is fighting back to protect these vital ecosystems.
Please join NRDC for a virtual town hall on Wednesday, July 22nd: Defending Our Oceans and Marine Life.
During this conversation, you’ll hear from:
- Michael Jasny, Director of Marine Mammals, who will focus on the Trump administration’s “God Squad”, which illegally convened and unanimously voted to sacrifice endangered marine species that are getting in the way of their plans for expanding oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Taryn Kiekow Heimer, Director of Ocean Energy, who will explain how expanded offshore oil and gas development and the growing push for destructive deep-sea mining threaten marine ecosystems, coastal communities, and our climate.
- Alison Chase, Director of Marine Protected Areas, who will break down the Trump administration’s dangerous efforts to rollback protections for the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument, and other monuments, and how NRDC is suing to protect them.
As members, you will have a unique opportunity to pose questions to our experts about what’s at stake, what lies ahead, and what we can do to fight back.
