Our Massive Outcry to Protect Public Lands is Working

When the Trump administration signaled that it planned to move forward with gutting the Roadless Area Conservation Rule and open tens of millions of acres of U.S. forests to logging, nearly 44,000 supporters like you submitted public comments opposing this reckless plan. Fortunately, the administration’s rollback has yet to move forward, keeping national forests protected for now.

And a vote in Congress to overturn critical protections for the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument was delayed indefinitely.

This is no coincidence — our massive outcry to protect public lands is working, thanks to supporters like you.

But we can’t stop now: As we speak, the Trump administration is moving to weaken the Oil and Gas Leasing Rule, which helps ensure the fossil fuel industry is held accountable for pollution they generate on public lands.

The administration is accepting public comments until August 24 about its dangerous proposal that could let oil and gas companies off the hook for polluting public lands.

And in a win for NRDC and our partners, a federal judge recently threw out an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) rule that unfairly and illegally restricted tax credits for wind and solar projects, slowing renewable energy buildout, increasing air pollution, and raising customers’ energy bills.
