This Plastic Free July, we’re asking a simple question: If the ocean isn’t disposable, why do we treat it that way?

Every minute, another truckload worth of plastic enters our ocean. In fact, plastic has been found in every corner of the ocean, from the deepest trench to the most remote Arctic ice. Incredibly, 80% of global marine litter is made of plastics.

However, some of the most dangerous pollution is a size we can’t even see. Tiny fragments called microplastics and microfibers are now everywhere—in the water we drink, the food we eat, the air we breathe and even inside our bodies. Because what we throw away doesn’t disappear—it washes back.
