No. 3 Men's Tennis Sweeps No. 14 Illinois to Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals |
For the 18th time since 2004, head coach Ty Tucker and the men's tennis team have punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals after the No. 3-seed Buckeyes swept No. 14-seed Illinois, 4-0, in the Super Regionals at the Auer Tennis Complex. Ohio State took control of the match early by securing the doubles point behind a 6-2 victory on court three from Alexander Bernard and Alex Okonkwo and a tie breaker, 7-6(4), win from Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin on court one. Filin opened up singles action making quick work of Illinois' Adam Jilly to pick up his 19th-straight singles victory, followed up with points by Bernard and Jack Anthrop to secure the Buckeyes' return to the Elite Eight.
With the win, Ohio State will travel to the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. to take on the No. 6-seed TCU Horned Frogs in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Elite Eight matchup is set for tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET and is available to stream on ESPN+. |
