Hooked 'Em! No. 3 Ohio State Holds Off No. 1 Texas in Season Opener |
In front of a packed Ohio Stadium crowd of 107,524, No. 3 Ohio State (1-0) opened its title defense by knocking off No. 1 Texas (0-1), 14–7. In his first career start, redshirt freshman quarterback Julian Sayin completed 13 of his 20 passes for 126 yards including a 40‑yard touchdown strike to Carnell Tate early in the fourth quarter. However, it was Ohio State’s defense that was the story of the day as the Silver Bullets recorded a critical interception and four fourth down stops including two inside their own 10-yard line.
The Buckeyes are back in action inside Ohio Stadium next Saturday as Ohio State hosts Grambling State (1-0) for its annual Alumni Band & Cheer game. Kickoff against the Tigers is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET with BTN providing the broadcast. |
