Friend, this may not come as a surprise, but at Trust for Public Land, we really believe in the power of trails.

The need is urgent.
In 2020, New York State opened the Empire State Trail, a continuous 750-mile multiuse pathway that spans the state from the Canadian border and Buffalo to the Battery at the tip of Manhattan.
But it ends there—leaving out more than 8 million New Yorkers who live east of the city.
The Long Island Greenway would help close that gap, creating safe connections between communities and giving millions of people new ways to get around without relying on busy roads.

Long Island accounts for roughly what share of New York’s bicycle fatalities?

When you take the quiz, you’ll discover why Long Island’s roads are so dangerous for walkers and bikers, and how the greenway will make everyday travel safer for millions.
The Long Island Greenway has the potential to be one of the most transformative trail projects in the nation and could pave the way for similar projects in communities where they’re needed most.
Together, we can help create trails that give millions of people safer ways to get to the places that matter.
