Andy,
As I woke up today, Human Rights Day, my thoughts went straight to those whose day will be filled only with violence, fear, and abuse.
I’m thinking of immigrants I saw trapped inside an overcrowded ICE detention center in Florida when I went with my Amnesty colleagues to document abuses. These are people who built their lives in the U.S., and now they’re being violently and unlawfully abducted by ICE from their homes and workplaces, cruelly torn from their families, tortured or otherwise ill-treated, and denied due process.
I'm thinking about the child, some 6,000 miles away in war-torn Darfur, who is taking her last breath after being stranded and starved... one of 14 million children in Sudan in desperate need of humanitarian aid.
Today will be a living nightmare for far too many people. We could simply toss up our hands and lament the world we’re living in. But, Andy, that’s not who we are.
We fight like hell to expose violations, protect people’s rights, and do everything we can to save their lives and their futures.
This Human Rights Day, our work — and your role in it — is as important as ever.
Thank you for joining our movement to protect human rights this year. Our movement is powered by YOU – compassionate people who chip in what they can.
Today, while we have this 5X matching gift, we need 1,000 Amnesty supporters to step up and help us respond to the crises that have erupted here at home and around the world. Can I count on you to make a gift that will go FIVE TIMES as far to help?
Please give now, before Human Rights Day is over.
