Frédéric, from Marolles, France, purchased a 1959 Porsche 356 A 1600 S in 2001 from the president of France's 356 club. About ten years ago, when he took the car for a repaint, the coachbuilder revealed the body was in poor condition, making restoration very costly. Frédéric decided to sell, but his wife Sandra was devastated when she heard the news.
Her emotional attachment stemmed from a memorable and harrowing experience shortly after their daughter was born. Frédéric had driven the 356 to bring Sandra and their newborn home from the hospital in winter. During the drive, conditions worsened dramatically — heavy snow caused many cars to slide off the road. With no heating or defrost system, they had to drive with the windows down to prevent the windshield from fogging. Thanks to the Porsche's narrow tires, they made it home safely.
Because the car had protected her baby, Sandra could never imagine letting it go. Once Frédéric understood the depth of her connection, he gave the car to her instead of selling it. Sandra worked hard to save money for the repaint herself, choosing its current soft, feminine color. Today she treasures the 356 for its light steering, reliable handling, and the irreplaceable memory it carries.
