Hi Friend

We’ve been wanting to share this with you guys for a while, because we’re pretty sure you were taught the same sun care growing up as we were: apply SPF, stay in the shade, avoid the midday sun, and reapply.
That’s not totally wrong, but it only focuses on SPF. Having a healthy relationship with the sun goes far deeper than damage and protection.
Your skin has a biological clock that is fueled by the sun. It has repair systems that activate depending on the time of day. And it has needs around sun exposure! Things like:

And most of these are things we’ve never been told.

But we’re here to fix that and share how to thrive in the sun. The sun is not something to be feared! It is something to enjoy responsibly and honor.

Here are some of the things you’ll learn in this article:

The circadian science behind sun exposure.

Bethany’s personal experience with melasma (and what made the biggest impact).

A practical light timeline for every part of a sun-filled day.

What to put on your skin before sun exposure.

The after-sun ritual that most people skip entirely.

How what you eat directly shapes how your skin responds to the sun.

This piece covers a lot of ground, and we’d love for you to read it slowly, save it, and share it with someone who loves the sun as much as we do.

And if you want to start building your before and after-sun ritual with products you can trust, we’ve made it easy:

→ Shop the before-sun ritual

→ Shop the after-sun ritual

Here’s to a summer of enjoying the sun.

P.S. If you haven’t listened to our podcast episode with circadian biology expert Zaid K. Dahhaj yet, it’s one of our favorites! So much of what we wrote about in this article traces back to that conversation. Give it a listen here
